A Man's Requirements
~ Elizabeth Barrett Browning.
I
Love me Sweet, with all thou art,
Feeling, thinking, seeing;
Love me in the lightest part,
Love me in full being.
II
Love me with thine open youth
In its frank surrender;
With the vowing of thy mouth,
With its silence tender.
III
Love me with thine azure eyes,
Made for earnest grantings;
Taking colour from the skies,
Can Heaven's truth be wanting?
IV
Love me with their lids, that fall
Snow-like at first meeting;
Love me with thine heart, that all
Neighbours then see beating.
V
Love me with thine hand stretched out
Freely -- open-minded:
Love me with thy loitering foot, --
Hearing one behind it.
VI
Love me with thy voice, that turns
Sudden faint above me;
Love me with thy blush that burns
When I murmur 'Love me!'
VII
Love me with thy thinking soul,
Break it to love-sighing;
Love me with thy thoughts that roll
On through living -- dying.
VIII
Love me in thy gorgeous airs,
When the world has crowned thee;
Love me, kneeling at thy prayers,
With the angels round thee.
IX
Love me pure, as muses do,
Up the woodlands shady:
Love me gaily, fast and true,
As a winsome lady.
X
Through all hopes that keep us brave,
Farther off or nigher,
Love me for the house and grave,
And for something higher.
XI
Thus, if thou wilt prove me, Dear,
Woman's love no fable,
I will love thee -- half a year --
As a man is able.

(asking for a lot, aren't I? but at least I'm honest.) *archly*

Such a cliche statement - nan2 ren2 bu2 huai4, nv3 ren2 bu2 ai4. (loosely translated as "If a guy is not bad/naughty/wicked, a gal would not love him) In other words, women are attracted by RAKES. Perversely, women like to complain abt a guy being bad but hey, if he is too nice, he's not considered charming either. *shake head*
So probably nice guys do finish last?
Yours truly have nothing against nice guys, just not the NEW AGE SENSITIVE MAN, who comes across as wimpy...But in my defense, it's not whether they are nice or not, it's whether they have backbone and character. And guys with such traits are automatically already out of the nice category, probably that's why guys, i'm told, hate to be describe as nice by girls because nice = boring. How true.
Me being me, being not at all inclined towards the let's stay together forever and forever, etc, etc. Let's just take one day at a time. So what do I need a nice guy for? Obviously, an interesting one has more possibilities? It's not as if i'm looking for a nice lamb to set up house with, so give me a wolf any day and I will love as he will, for 1/2 a year as he is able.
Thank you very much.

i don't know ... wolves or lambs? i'd run with wolves but i'd eat ...um, i mean get chummy with a lamb.
it's awfully hard to find Nice Guys these days (they aren't all of them boring) - i think they've really all made like the dinosaurs and died out. can't say the same for the Neanderthals, unfortunately ...
To S: that's not true. I tink offhand I know quite a few Mr Nice Guys, unfortunately, I find most of them boring. But to be fair, they probably find me boring too. *shrug*
To *25: Why the new nick? Anyway, you sound prudish. *tsk tsk* Btw, you're guilty of double standards, me thinks. Why can't I play with the wolf & keep him as my companion of choice? *arched brows*
Yes. I know the book is due. I'll drop by NUS on Sun. Btw, are you going to the PS dinner? Cos I shld be going & would like company.
